The woman was lucky if she stood all of five feet. Her blonde hair was lighter than the harvest grain and it sparkled twice as bright. Perhaps her vivid silk gown was meant as a warning. It had flapped in competition to the sails when a good breeze took the harbor.

She agreed to be my father’s woman and despite what oaths they uttered before the Gods and their people, the fates had a humor all of their own.

I have no explanation for what happened after that day on the hill. If I could go back to that day... it would have all been different. I would have drowned her with my bare hands and smiled while doing so. She robbed my kin of their good name, cost us everything our people had worked for, and even worse, now there was a serpent to Nastrond reserved in my name!

Despite it all, I still can’t decide if she was the greatest love of my life, or my sweetest of regrets. Let me start from the beginning, I’ll let you decide...
